One of the really great things about many Latin American towns is the
central plaza (in Mexico, it's the zocalo, here in Chile it's the
plaza). Much of the time it'll be called the Plaza de Armas.
Una de las cosas realmente grandes acerca de muchos pueblos latinoamericanos es la plaza central (en México, es el zocalo, en Chile es la plaza). Mucho del tiempo que será llamada la Plaza de Armas. In Vicuña the plaza contains a large open space, together with a permanent stage, where many events take place throughout the year. During February, there is a month-long festival, with concerts most nights--Brazilian music, Chilean music, Cueca dancing (the Chilean national dance), romantic music, etc., etc. In February 2009 there was a jazz
concert, with the trumpeter Daniel Lencina, an icon of Chilean jazz.
En Vicuña la plaza contiene un espacio
abierto grande, conjuntamente con una plataforma permanente, donde hay
muchos acontecimientos a todo lo largo del año. Durante febrero, hay un
festival de un mes de duración, con conciertos la mayoría de noches - la
música brasileña, la música chilena, Cueca bailando (el baile nacional
chileno), música romántica, etcétera., etcétera. En febrero 2009 allí fue un concierto de jazz, con

He got the crowd singing, on "As Time Goes By" Hugo (sitting right on the aisle) was pointing to me, urging Daniel to
have me sing, and when Daniel heard me, he handed me the mike, and I
finished the song.
