Laos Landscapes

This page documents some of the terrain and the dwellings I saw from the bus while traveling from city to city

Vientiane to Vang Vieng

At first a lightly wooded terrain, modest amounts of agriculture

with a mix of traditional and modern houses

An hour or two north of Vientiane, we got into the hill country we'd be in until Luang Prabang

Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang to Phonsavan

Much of the trip was in high hill country, with narrow strips of villages along the highway

But as we approached Phonsavan we broke into more open country

Quite similar to the transitional landscape on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and Washington

The land of pines
